The theme for the shoot was “catwalk grunge” as we wanted to keep it quite edgy but still a little glam/elegant instead of urban.

I think the distressed styling and monochrome colour pallet worked brilliantly…enjoy a few teasers from the shoot below!

I was approached to do a Portrait Couture folio shoot as a five year anniversary present from James to Emma. This was a complete surprise for her until just before we arranged the consultation, at which point she was both nervous and excited. She had never done anything like this before and had never had a professional make-up artist style her either (not even at their wedding).

When I sat down with them for their consultation I immediately got excited for the shoot as they started referencing Tim Burton films for inspiration. So much so, I even ended up creating a black & white striped alcove to shoot against specifically for them.

Needless to say they were absolutely made up with all their images and were the first clients to enjoy my brand new 14″ Napella Folio product I produce that gives you a beautiful book of twenty portraits that can be removed and framed as you please.

Thanks again to you and Cara for the shoot – was a bit terrified on approaching day (as usually hide from people with cameras!) but you both made me feel really comfortable and enjoyed the day a lot – especially like that you guys pushed me out of my usual comfort zone with styling and encouraged us to try new things

These are two images I worked with the stylist Abby Louise from The Hairbank in Urmston to create.

They were for her entry to Matrix’s Destination Fame competition. I absolutely love the styling she did and hope they do well for her.

The model in this instance is actually the make-up artist , the doubly talented Lynn Docherty.

In the meantime I’d like to use some portraits from the last session I blogged to demonstrate how I design a shoot with my clients using mood boards.

In our consultation Rachel told me she was drawn towards the more mono/de-saturated photographs in my collection and that the style she would like to be photographed in was very glamourous with a few different looks from edgy black & white to a softer style. She then went away and took snapshots of the outfits she had in mind.

Using our consultation I put together this mood board as a visual representation of what we discussed to ensure we were on the same wavelength.

NOTE: Not all images in this moodboard are my own, they are sourced from a variety of places such as clippings from magazines and other photographers (most notably www.suebryce.com).

Now this mood board is not set in stone, it’s simply a map to help us go in the right direction and as you’ll see when comparing the final images we changed some of the styling options such as the hair and introduced some new outfits that Rachel went and bought for the shoot last minute.

Kristen is an accountant assistant who came for a shoot with me in December having never been photographed professionally before. She enjoyed it so much and took to it so naturally that I have since invited her back not only to shoot my promo video but to also model for one of my personal projects too.

The concept for this shoot was dreamt up by Lynn Docherty, one of my very talented make-up artists. She, along with Laura Kulik of The Hair Bank (Urmston) did a fantastic job of transforming Kristen after the Ultrabrite shoot into the avant-garde fashion look you see here.

If you ask me Kristen could have a budding career ahead of her on the catwalk as well as with a calculator!  (that was lame, I know! )

Wobbleyou is a fitness studio on Dale Street in the Northern Quarter. They are Manchester’s first and only studio dedicated to FLABéLOS – the ultimate whole body vibration workout machine.

They appealed to me as I really loved their fun branding and having met them I can attest they are a friendly group of people too. The manager Rachel has a portrait session booked with me next week so rest assured you’ll be meeting her on here very soon!

We had such a fun time making this and it’s a great example of the type of fun you can enjoy on a Portrait Couture Photoshoot with me.

Remember though, I don’t just cater to the “thirty & flirty” market. I enjoy inviting every woman for a shoot with me at the studio, from sisters/friends to mother & daughters and couples with family too.
